Teach Your Kids About God
This post is probably the most important part of being a father. Teach your kids about God. Proverbs 22:6 Says, “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old , he will not depart from it.” There is no better way to train up a child in the way he should go than to follow God with all your heart, all your mind, and all your soul.
I’m not claiming to be perfect, and if you’ve read the other posts on this blog, you’ll know I’m not.
There are a few simple steps that you can follow every day to teach your kids about God:
1. Pray with your kids every day. Meal times, and bed times are easy times to teach your kids about God through prayer. Giving thanks for the blessings of the day, and hopes for the future given to God in the presence of your kids will teach them by example.
2. Take your kids to church. Handy fathers go to church. I don’t care what projects you have going on at home… The most important Handy Father project you can do is to raise your kids up knowing God, and loving Him. Being at church will teach your kids about God in a practical way, and give them friends who will be a good influence on them for their whole lives. “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together”, because church is important!
3. More – We don’t have a young kid’s program at our church, but we send them to my mom’s church on Wednesday nights for an A.W.A.N.A. club. There is a program for my 3 year old, cubbies, my 6 year old, SPARKS, and TNT for my 5th grader. A.W.A.N.A. clubs will help teach your kids about God, but this is a supplemental thing, because as parents it is our job to raise our kids up in the way they should go.
It isn’t the teacher’s, pastor’s or anyone else’s job to teach your kids about God. It is yours!
